Biro Earns Point in Latest Verde Comeback
We salvaged a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Q2 Stadium against San Jose, thanks to Guilherme Biro's stoppage-time equalizer in the 90+6th minute. It's the second straight week the boys in Verde have pulled out points in the match's final moments. San Jose struck first early, but we dominated the second half, controlling possession and outshooting the Earthquakes 16-10. Chances came close but narrowly missed, until Biro found the back of the net off an assist from Christian Ramirez to salvage what easily could have been a defeat.
Forward Facundo Torres and Bryan Vazquez both came agonizingly close to finding the net, with Torres nearly breaking through late in regulation. Brad Stuver picked up a yellow card in the 87th minute amid the late-game chaos. The Verde and Black were unquestionably the better side for the final 65 minutes, carrying nearly double the expected goals, yet we needed Biro's heroics to leave with anything from this one. The draw keeps us in the fight, though it's clear wins are what we need down the stretch. Austin FC 2, Club Tijuana 0. On a warm Thursday night at Q2 Stadium, the boys in Verde opened their 2026 Leagues Cup exactly how we hoped, with two first-half goals, a clean sheet, and a performance that never really looked in doubt. Thirty shots to Tijuana's seven tells you who wanted it more.
Joseph Rosales got us going in the 16th minute, running onto a clever Myrto Uzuni through ball and sliding a low left-footed finish inside the near post. Right on the stroke of half time, Jon Gallagher doubled the lead deep in first-half stoppage time and effectively settled the contest. Brad Stuver and the back line did the rest, seeing off some late Xolos pressure and getting a helping hand when an early second-half red card to Oleksandr Svatok was overturned on review. It is a real lift for a side that had won just once in its previous seven, and against a Tijuana team that arrived unbeaten in eight it counts for even more. Three points banked, a clean sheet kept, and plenty to build on. Puebla come to Q2 on Sunday night, then it is Club America on the 13th. Same time, same place, same songs. Good signs from the training ground: Austin FC is working key names back to fitness, with forward Brandon Vazquez and midfielder Owen Wolff pushing toward returns. Fresh legs would be timely with a busy Leagues Cup and MLS stretch just ahead.
Summer Window: Midfield Reshaped
The window brought change to the middle of the park. Austin FC moved on from midfielder Dani Pereira, sending him to CF Montreal for Allocation Money while keeping a sell-on stake. Earlier in the year the club added Honduran international Joseph Rosales from Minnesota.
Liga MX Comes to Q2 for Leagues Cup
Leagues Cup is back, and Q2 Stadium hosts three Liga MX sides. Austin FC welcomes Club Tijuana on August 6, Puebla on August 9, and Club America on August 13, each a first-ever meeting. Phase One runs August 4 to 13, with the top four from each league advancing.
